BLACKFRIARS SEPTUAGENARIAN'S FATAL FALL.

SEQUEL TO A CHARABANC TRIP.

On Friday, at Brixton, Mr. Sewell, Deputy Coroner, held an inquiry touching the death of Robert James Winter, aged 77 years, a coppersmith, late of 11, Nelson Square, Blackfriars Road.

Joseph Hy. Winter, a nephew, said that on Monday, the 23rd ult., he heard that deceased had met with an accident and broken his arm.  Witness at once went and accompanied deceased to Guy’s Hospital, where he was admitted and remained there till Friday, the 3rd inst., when he came home. The family doctor was then called in, who attended deceased till his death, last Wednesday.

John Robert Powell, a publican, of 108, Blackfriars Road, stated that on Sunday, the 22nd ult. deceased accompanied a charabanc party to Eastbourne.  On the return home they pulled up at the “Commonwealth” public-house, Caterham and whilst going to the lavatory deceased fell. When picked up he said he had hurt his arm, but treated the matter lightly.  Witness asked him to see a medical man, but deceased refused saying he would be all right the next morning.   Witness’s son took him home.

Dr. W. H. Stevanson, of Blackfriars Road, stated that death was due to syncope from pneumonia, accelerated by the fractured arm. The Jury returned a verdict of “Accidental death.”
